“Kay!” Dean shouted and scrambled up to sit in the corner of the couch.
“Now, cross your l-”
“Kiss-coss applesauce!” The little boy interrupted as he folded his legs under himself.
Mary laughed and nodded, swaying with the baby in her arms. “Now, remember, you can only hold him when you’re sitting.”
“I ‘member.” Dean held out his little arms, waiting to receive the tiny bundle. This was his favorite part of the afternoon. He got to have his little brother all to himself. Sam never fussed in his big brother’s hold, but he didn’t always sleep either. Sometimes they would just stare at one another and Mary was sure they were having a silent conversation. Sometimes Dean sang the alphabet song, trying to teach the infant. Sometimes he just let Sam gum his fingers, and laugh when the baby gurgled. “Don’ worry momma. I hold ‘im tight.”
